Your day begins with pickup from your accommodation in the standard Panama City pickup area. Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with your English- and Spanish-speaking guide toward Gamboa, where the Chagres River meets the Panama Canal.
MONKEY ISLAND AND GATUN LAKE
Board a boat and explore the forested shores and islands of Gatun Lake. Watch the treetops for monkeys and listen for wildlife as your guide shares insights into this tropical environment.
You may spot capuchins, tamarins or howler monkeys, as well as birds and other animals. Wildlife moves freely, so sightings vary. Along the way, enjoy views of the rainforest and the Panama Canal’s working waterway.
AGUA CLARA LOCKS
Continue by road to the Caribbean side of Panama and visit the Agua Clara Visitor Center. From its elevated viewing area, look out over the expanded locks and Gatun Lake while learning how the canal moves ships between different water levels.
Ship movements depend on the canal’s operating schedule, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Admission to the visitor center is not included.
FORT SAN LORENZO
Travel through the forested landscape to Fort San Lorenzo, overlooking the mouth of the Chagres River. Walk among the historic fortifications, see surviving cannons and learn about the fort’s role in protecting an important colonial trade route.
Enjoy views of the river, surrounding forest and Caribbean coastline before returning to Panama City. Fort and reserve entrance fees are not included.
Your Gatun Lake boat ride explores the Monkey Island area. The journey between the attractions is by road, and the boat does not pass through the canal locks.
