Ethiopia Coffee Tour: 3 Days / 2 Nights in Yirgalem

Discover the birthplace of coffee on a 3-day tour of Ethiopia’s Sidama region. Stay at Aregash Lodge, visit coffee farms, and experience a traditional coffee ceremony.
Day 1: Addis Ababa to Yirgalem

Begin your journey with a morning departure from Addis Ababa, driving south along the scenic Rift Valley. Make stops at Lake Ziway or Lake Langano for birdwatching and relaxation. Continue through fertile farmlands and Sidama villages before arriving at Aregash Lodge, surrounded by bamboo forests and coffee plantations.

Receive a traditional welcome and introduction to the lodge. In the evening, relax by the lodge and enjoy a Sidama cultural music and dance performance (if available). Spend the night at Aregash Lodge.

Day 2: Coffee Experience and Cultural Encounters

Start your day with a morning walk through the lodge’s organic coffee plantation. Learn about coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing with local farmers. Participate in a hands-on traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, from roasting to tasting.

Enjoy lunch at the lodge, featuring organic ingredients. In the afternoon, visit nearby Sidama villages for cultural exchange and daily life experiences. Optionally, take a guided forest walk to spot colobus monkeys, hyenas (evening feeding), and colorful birds around the lodge. Spend the evening at leisure with fresh coffee by the fire. Spend the night at Aregash Lodge.

Day 3: Return to Addis Ababa

Spend your morning relaxing at the lodge or take a short walk in the forest trails. Enjoy one last cup of fresh Sidama coffee before departing Yirgalem. Drive back to Addis Ababa with stops for photos and lunch on the way. Conclude your journey with a drop-off at your hotel or the airport for departure.
