3-Day Dagana Dzong & Stone Carvings Heritage Tour

Explore Dagana on a 3-day tour from Thimphu. Visit Dagana Dzong, discover ancient stone carvings, and enjoy a scenic drive through Dochula Pass.
Day 1: Thimphu to Dagana

Depart from Thimphu and enjoy a scenic drive to Dagana, passing through the Dochula Pass. Stop for 30 minutes to admire the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and take in the breathtaking Himalayan views.

Visit Lobesa Village for a short stroll and stop at the Sunkosh River Viewpoint for photography and a riverside moment. Arrive in Dagana town and check in at your local guesthouse or hotel.

In the evening, take a leisurely walk around the peaceful Dagachhu Riverside. Enjoy a guided talk on Dagana’s history and stone carving traditions. Spend the night in Dagana.

Day 2: Dagana Dzong and Stone Carvings

Visit Dagana Dzong for a guided tour of its temples and murals. Learn about its role as a spiritual and administrative center. Walk through the courtyard and admire the surrounding landscapes.

Explore the ancient stone carving sites near the Dzong. See extraordinary carved stones depicting Buddhist symbols, deities, and historic figures. Meet local experts who share the oral history of the carvings.

Visit a nearby village to interact with locals and witness traditional weaving and stone carving practices. Optionally, participate in a stone carving workshop session (at an extra cost). In the evening, attend a local cultural performance or storytelling session (if available). Enjoy dinner at your accommodation and spend the night in Dagana.

Day 3: Nature Trail and Lhakhang Visit

Take a short hike to a local Lhakhang (monastery/temple) through pine and bamboo forests. Enjoy a spiritual blessing and a meditation or quiet reflection session.

Return to your hotel for rest and packing. Depart for Thimphu, stopping for tea at the Sunkoshi Bridge area. Arrive in Thimphu in the evening, marking the end of your tour.
