Quebec is the heart of the “l'accent d'Amérique”, the bastion of French history in North America. Hiding within its roots are the Scottish people. Walk the streets and discover their story.
From the days of Nouvelle France to the wars that forged this nation, The Clearances, The Irish Potato Famine and to immigrants wanting a better life. The Scots have been present throughout the journey. Many early Scots married French Canadians and settled in this beautiful part of the country. Many of their descendants became French Canadians and unknowingly walk the streets amongst us today. Others held fast their culture and traditions which are steadfast in Canada. Listen to their story using the same streets and the city that once had a large Gaelic speaking population. Céad Míle Fáilte!
From Explorers to Politicians, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the Scottish people have left their footprints not just in place names and geography, but in the very foundation of this country. Using the beautiful backdrop of Vieux Quebec, your guide will share anecdotes of their history, and how their journeys started on the very ground you walk on. This time travel will also introduce you to local and world history and the events that changed the world.
Your guide in this tour is the character of Donald McKinnon. He arrived in North America to fight the French, but after the Seven Years War settled and married a French-Canadian.
