Begin your adventure by entering the park through the downtown cableway station and taking the Tianmen Mountain Cableway to the summit. During the ascent, enjoy sweeping views of Zhangjiajie city, the surrounding valleys, and the steep cliff faces of Tianmen Mountain.
Once at the top, explore the West Line, which will be the highlight of your day. Walk the cliff-hanging Glass Skywalk for a thrilling view of the sheer drops below, and follow the Ghost Valley Plank Road along the mountainside, where the scenery becomes especially dramatic when shrouded in mist. Visit Tianmen Temple, a peaceful spot perched on the mountain, and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
Next, proceed to Heaven’s Gate (Tianmen Cave), the enormous natural arch that is the symbol of the mountain. Take the escalators down to the cave, or challenge yourself with the famous 999 steps if you have the energy. Stand beneath the giant opening and admire the breathtaking view of the 99-bend Tongtian Avenue winding up the mountain below.
After lunch, continue to the East Line to experience more of Tianmen Mountain’s classic cliff scenery. Walk along the cliffside paths, enjoy the glass walkway views, and take a short rest at a viewpoint overlooking the mountain ridges and deep valleys.
Afterwards, take the sightseeing bus down the mountain along the legendary 99-bend Tongtian Avenue, experiencing the sharp turns and steep drops up close. Finally, take the shuttle bus back to the city cableway station, ending your journey.
