Shaanxi Wave Valley Scenic Area is located in Longzhou Town, Jingbian County, Yulin City, about 22 kilometers from Jingbian County seat. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction. The scenic area is renowned for its typical "valley-type Danxia" landform. Red sandstone, through the tectonic uplift of the Ordos Basin and long-term external erosion, has formed world-rare wave-like textures, earning it the title of "Natural Danxia Museum." In 2025, Wave Valley was successfully selected for Chinese National Geography's "China's Most Beautiful Danxia" Contender List, thanks to its unique geological structure and profound cultural heritage.

First, the landform here is a masterpiece of 96 million years of time.
The Danxia landform of Wave Valley was formed 96 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. Sand dunes were continuously soaked in groundwater, and over years of deposition, condensed layer by layer into sandstone. Later, through crustal movement and the natural sculpting of water and wind, peculiar landscapes such as line valleys, lane valleys, and red cliffs were finally formed. The layered sandstone textures resemble surging waves — brilliant and passionate on sunny days, hazy and serene after rain.

Second, three major Danxia zones, three completely different "planet experiences."
The scenic area is planned into three themed touring zones: Flame Danxia Zone has the most intense colors, like a red ocean, nicknamed the "Mars Secret Realm" by visitors; Red Cliff Danxia Zone is known for its interwoven vertical cliffs and horizontal textures, where you can venture deep into the canyon to capture stunning photos blending people and scenery; Earth's Core Danxia Zone features towering rock walls on both sides, and hiking deep inside feels like stepping onto another planet. One visitor exclaimed: "The internet said Wave Valley hides a 'Mars Secret Realm.' When I got there, I found it even more stunning than I imagined."

Third, a perfect symbiosis of Danxia and human culture.
The Yanjiazhai Danxia cave dwellings in the core area of the scenic area are carved into the red cliffs. Inside, bedrooms, kitchens, grain storage pits, and other facilities are fully equipped. The interconnected structure bears witness to the survival wisdom of ancient people who made use of nature and defended against disasters. Experts commented: "The integration of artificial cliff dwellings with Danxia red cliffs highlights the cultural characteristics of northern Shaanxi and is a unique cultural landscape."
