Day 1: Addis Ababa to Erta Ale

Begin your adventure with a flight from Addis Ababa to Semera. Then, drive through the volcanic lava fields to Erta Ale, an active volcano site. On the way, visit the super alkaline Lake Afdera, where cooking salt is mined.

Upon arrival at the base camp, take a break for coffee and rest. In the late afternoon, walk about 30 minutes to the lava lake, where year-round volcanic activity mesmerizes visitors. Take time to admire the scene before heading back to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Erta Ale to Ahmed Ela

In the early morning, return to the volcano to admire the lava with a sunrise view. After breakfast, drive to Ahmed Ela. In the afternoon, visit another salty lake, Lake Asale, a breathtaking body of water fed by the Red Sea.

Day 3: Dallol to Mekelle to Addis Ababa

Explore salt mountains and caves, and take a dip in a refreshing pond in the middle of the desert. Then, drive to Mekelle to catch your afternoon flight to Addis Ababa.
