Begin your experience in Croix-Rousse, a neighborhood perched on a hill above the city and known as the historic home of Lyon’s silk workers, the famous “Canuts.” During the 19th century, this area became the center of Europe’s silk production, and the neighborhood still preserves the unique architecture built to house massive weaving looms.

As you walk through the district, discover wide staircases, colorful streets, and hidden traboules—secret passageways once used by silk workers and merchants to transport delicate fabrics through the city. Your guide will share the fascinating story of the Canuts revolts, when silk workers rose up in one of the first worker uprisings of the industrial era.
