Most Komodo boat trips hide two gambles in the small print. The first is the boat: "subject to availability" or "similar boat assigned" often means a smaller, older boat than the photos. Small boats roll more in the open sea, and seasickness is one of the most common complaints on Komodo trips. There are no standard boats in our fleet. Superior phinisi are larger, longer and heavier than standard boats, so they sit more steadily in the water and rock far less between islands. That means a smoother ride, better sleep and less seasickness. Every boat has AC cabins, a private ensuite bathroom in every cabin, ocean-view windows and a shaded sundeck. We send your boat's name and photos before departure. If we cannot place you on a superior phinisi, you get a full refund.

Guarantee 2: See a Komodo dragon
Our local guides work with the park rangers and know where the dragons rest and move through the seasons. If you don't see a Komodo dragon during your Komodo Island visit, we refund your national park fee in cash before you leave the boat.

Day 1: Islands and flying foxes
After pick-up, board your phinisi in Labuan Bajo. Climb the hill on Kelor Island, then snorkel the reef at Manjarite. At sunset, anchor near Kalong Island and watch thousands of flying foxes cross the sky from the deck. Dinner and first night on board.

Day 2: The heart of Komodo
Hike Padar Island at sunrise for the famous three-bay view. Swim and snorkel at Pink Beach, then walk Komodo Island with a ranger to find the world's largest lizard. In the afternoon, snorkel with manta rays at Manta Point and relax on the Taka Makassar sandbar. Second night on board.

Day 3: Turtles and return
