Embark on a day trip from Inverness to Loch Ness, Glenfinnan, and the Highlands. See the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, view the Great Glen and explore the charming village of Fort Augustus.
Embark on a day trip from Inverness to the Scottish Highlands to spot monsters, hear myths, and see some of Scotland’s most iconic filming locations. Visit the Glenfinnan Viaduct, Urquhart Castle, and the charming village of Fort Augustus.

Depart from Inverness and journey along the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland’s second largest loch, where you will be able to hear the legends of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster and see if you can spot her for yourself. Stop for a view of the Urquhart Castle which sits on the shores of the loch, steeped in history.

Continue down the shores of Loch Ness and onto Invermoriston, where the river Morriston connects to the loch. See the original Invermoriston bridge and Summer House which have spectacular views over the falls and were the inspiration for “Neverland” in JM Barry’s novel Peter Pan.

Journey further southwest through the Great Glen, a fault line which runs across the width of Scotland, splitting the country in two, where you will be able to enjoy views of the other lochs and mountains that make up the valley, before stopping for lunch at the base of the glen.

Arrive at Glenfinnan, the pinnacle of the journey. See the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was engineered by Thomas Telford, and the Jacobite Monument. Traverse the nearby trails to see the best views of the viaduct, have a chance to see the Jacobite Steam Train and relive the movie magic of the Hogwarts Express as it crosses over. (Please note that the train will be operating from 5th May- 26th September 2025. On days that the train is not in operation, you will still have the opportunity to visit the viaduct.)

Take a stroll down to the shores of Loch Shiel and marvel at the Glenfinnan Monument, the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie first raised his royal standard in the Jacobite Uprisings of 1745.

Head to the charming village of Fort Augustus, nestled at the southern tip of Loch Ness. With breathtaking views stretching up the loch, it’s a perfect place to pause and take in the scenery. For those looking to dive deeper into the local history, the Caledonian Canal Centre offers fascinating insights into the canal’s storied past.

Journey back up the south road of Loch Ness on the homeward trip. Following General Wade's historic military road, travel along a piece of history, originally built to connect the Highlands. The winding path, with its rugged charm and occasional breathtaking viewpoints, makes the return trip just as memorable, before arriving back at Inverness after an action-packed day filled with adventure.
