Depart from Bucharest and head to Curtea de Argeș, once the capital of Wallachia. Visit the spectacular Curtea de Argeș Monastery, a masterpiece of Romanian medieval architecture. Built in the 16th century by Prince Neagoe Basarab, the monastery is famous for its intricate stonework and the poignant legend of Master Manole, whose sacrifice is said to have ensured the church’s eternal beauty.
