Descrizione

Guided tour led by a historian, official tour guide, and Art History professor. Bilbao from its origins in 1300 to its industrialization in the late 19th century.
You will learn about the key aspects of the city, its raison d'être, the role of the port and the Bilbao estuary, the way of life of the people of Bilbao, their customs, the architecture, the urban planning, the connections with the surrounding countryside, and trade with other regions of Europe… Everything you need to understand the city's origins and development. The tour will serve to refresh our knowledge of history, geography, and art. This tour of Bilbao will also connect visitors with their own history.

Your visit begins at the Mercado de la Ribera. We will stroll through the streets and the history of Bilbao. We will visit Seven Streets. From a panoramic perspective, we will gain an understanding of Bilbao's development in the Middle Ages and the Modern Age. We will visit markets and some of the palaces and churches.

We will also discover the Cathedral, Bilbao's main churches and historic palaces, Plaza Santiago, Plaza Unamuno, Plaza Nueva, Plaza San Nicolás, and Plaza del Arenal, as well as the Bidebarrieta Library and centuries-old shops. We will also provide visitors with tips on how to enjoy the rest of their stay in Bilbao and the Basque Country.

We will talk about famous figures from Bilbao, such as the writer Miguel de Unamuno, the musician Arriaga, the architect Bastida, and the Jesuit Pedro Arrupe, as well as about the periods of peace, war, and social conflict that Bilbao has experienced, and the evolution of ideas and artistic movements.

We will explain the fundamentals of Basque cuisine and provide the best tips for visiting bars and restaurants later on. We will also discuss the city's passions, such as the Athletic Club and its festivals.

We use radio guides, so we can interact throughout the two-hour tour (not just at the group stops).

As the group is accompanied by an official tour guide, commentary may also be provided inside buildings listed as Historic-Artistic Heritage.

The tour can be conducted in one of the following languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, or French.
