From Moshi: Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Tour with Lunch

Hike to Materuni Waterfalls, enjoy a traditional Chagga lunch, and discover local coffee traditions as you roast, grind, and brew fresh Tanzanian coffee.
Begin your day with a morning pickup from your hotel in Moshi. Drive through the beautiful countryside toward Materuni Village, located on the fertile slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way, enjoy views of local villages, banana plantations, coffee farms, and the surrounding green landscape.

Upon arrival in Materuni, meet your local guide and begin a guided walk through the countryside. The trail passes through coffee and banana plantations, with opportunities to learn about local farming practices, traditional crops, and the daily life of the Chagga people.

Continue through the lush vegetation toward Materuni Waterfalls. After approximately 1.5–2 hours of walking, depending on your pace and trail conditions, reach the spectacular waterfall. Take time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings, listen to the sound of the falling water, take photographs, and relax in nature. Swimming may be possible depending on the water conditions and local safety guidance.

After enjoying the waterfall, walk back to the village and enjoy a freshly prepared traditional Chagga lunch. The meal may include locally grown ingredients such as bananas, vegetables, rice, beans, and meat, offering you a taste of authentic local cuisine.

In the afternoon, take part in a traditional Chagga coffee experience. Learn about the journey from coffee plant to cup, including how coffee cherries are harvested, processed, roasted, ground, and brewed. Participate in roasting and grinding the coffee using traditional methods and enjoy a freshly prepared cup. The experience may also include traditional Chagga songs and cultural interaction.

Before departing, spend some time appreciating the village and learning more about Chagga traditions and rural life around Mount Kilimanjaro. Later in the afternoon, drive back to Moshi and arrive at your hotel, marking the end of this memorable cultural and nature experience.
