Embark on a day trip to Chumbe Island, a unique and memorable travel destination situated off the southwest coast of Zanzibar. The reserve includes a Coral Reef Sanctuary and a Forest Reserve.

Enjoy a guided snorkelling tour through one of the best-preserved shallow reefs on the East African Coast. Savour a Zanzibar-influenced lunch and take a guided tour of the island's coral rag forest, baobab, mangrove cave, and historic lighthouse.

Boat transfers to and from the island are included. The island is managed by Chumbe Island Coral Park (CHICOP), a not-for-profit company. All income from visitors is re-invested into the conservation and environmental education programmes operated within the park.

Please note:
Guests must pay a Blue Economy Levy of 25 USD per day on arrival.
Chumbe Island is a 100 % fishing no take zone.
The carrying capacity of Chumbe Island is limited to 18 guests per day including overnight guests and day trip guests.
Meeting Point: In the restaurant area of Mbweni Ruins & Gardens Hotel.

  • Boat transport to and from the island from partner hotel Mbweni Ruins & Gardens (former Jungle Paradise Hotel) (meet at 9:30 am sharp for registration)
  • Swahili influenced lunch, freshly cooked on the island
  • Sodas, water and snacks
  • Boat, guide and equipment for snorkelling
  • Tuition in snorkelling, if required
  • Snorkelling over one of East Africa’s most diverse coral reef
  • Guided walk through the forest trails and inter-tidal area (if low tide)
  • Access to climb to the top of our historic lighthouse
  • Return boat leaves Chumbe Island at 4:30 pm arriving at Mbweni Ruins & Gardens at approximately 5:00 pm depending on sea conditions.

NON INCLUSO
  • Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase on the island.
  • All tourists visiting Chumbe Island will be required to pay an additional Blue Economy Levy of 25 USD per person, per day on arrival. Children between the ages of 5 and 15: 10 USD, Children under the age of 5: Free.
