THE CAPITAL AND ITS UNESCO MEDINA
You begin on Avenue Habib Bourguiba, the grand tree-lined boulevard of Tunis, with its French colonial façades, cathedral and clock tower. Then you step into the UNESCO-listed medina: a dense maze of covered souks where the perfume market, the copper beaters and the chéchia cap-makers' lane still work as they always have, threading toward the venerable Ez-Zitouna mosque, founded around 698 CE.

SIDI BOU SAÏD, THE BLUE-AND-WHITE VILLAGE
After free time for lunch, the road climbs to Sidi Bou Saïd: whitewashed walls, cobalt-blue studded doors, bougainvillea over every archway, cobbled lanes that open without warning onto the Mediterranean. Wander the craft stalls, find the viewpoint above the marina, and sit down to a mint tea with the whole Gulf of Tunis in front of you.
