4-Day Mount Kenya Sirimon-Chogoria Trek

Embark on a 4-day trek from Nairobi to Mount Kenya. Hike through forests, cross rivers, and reach Point Lenana for sunrise views. Stay in camps or bandas along the way.
Day 1: Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

Begin your adventure with a pickup in Nairobi and transfer to Nanyuki Town via shared public transport. After lunch, continue to Sirimon Gate (2,660m), crossing the Equator along the way.

After completing park entry formalities, begin your trek through beautiful montane forest, bamboo vegetation, and giant heather zones. The trail gradually ascends into the high-altitude moorlands, leading to Old Moses Camp (3,300m).

This gentle introductory hike takes approximately 3–4 hours and provides an excellent opportunity to acclimatize while enjoying the stunning scenery.

Dinner and Overnight: Old Moses Camp

Day 2: Old Moses Camp – Shipton's Camp (4,200m)

After breakfast, continue your ascent along the trail, branching right at the main junction. The route crosses the Ontulili River before traversing the expansive moorlands. You will then cross the Liki North River and gradually ascend into the spectacular Mackinder's Valley.

Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Arriving at Shipton's Camp, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Mount Kenya's towering summits and glaciers. The area is also home to rock hyraxes and numerous species of sunbirds.

Dinner and Overnight: Shipton's Camp

Day 3: Shipton's Camp – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Mount Kenya Bandas

Your summit attempt begins early at approximately 3:00 a.m. to reach Point Lenana in time for sunrise.

The ascent follows a path of frozen scree and rocky terrain, with a few easy scrambling sections. On clear nights, the star-filled sky provides a spectacular backdrop for the climb. As dawn breaks, enjoy unforgettable views from Point Lenana (4,985m), Kenya's highest trekking peak. On a clear morning, Mount Kilimanjaro can often be seen on the distant horizon.

After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, descend towards Mount Kenya Bandas. The descent offers stunning views of the Gorges Valley, Lake Michaelson, and the unique landscapes of the Chogoria Route.

Guests staying at the Bandas can enjoy comfortable beds, hot showers, and cozy log fires.

Day 4: Mount Kenya Bandas – Chogoria Town – Nairobi

After breakfast, descend through bamboo forests and pristine rainforest along a broad track. You will meet your transfer vehicle for the journey to Chogoria Town before continuing to Nairobi.

For those who prefer, part of the descent can be completed using a 4x4 vehicle at an additional cost.

Expected arrival in Nairobi is approximately 5:00 p.m.
