Puerto Maldonado: Lake Sandoval Day Trip by Boat

Enjoy a day full of adventures and sightings of unique animals in the area such as the black caiman and monkeys.
We will come pick you up at your hotel or bus station after prior coordination the day before, then we will go to the dock where you will board the boat and head to the Madre de Dios River, where your boat is waiting for you to spend the day. Board the boat and set sail along the vibrant river towards the Tambopata National Reserve, with beautiful views.

Arrive at the reserve and enjoy a 30-minute walk through the lush landscape until you reach Lake Sandoval. During the walk, admire the views of the colossal jungle trees that surround you and watch out for native fauna, including monkeys and parrots. At the lake, hop into a canoe and head out into the calm waters, which are beautifully reflected by the trees lining the shore. Keep an eye out for the abundance of animals and birds that call Sandoval home, and in particular the giant lake otters.

Enjoy a quick stop for food and rest, then hop back on your boat in search of black alligators and other fascinating animals. Admire a stunning sunset at dusk, and then return to the pier from where you can return to your hotel or board a tuktuk back to your hotel or enjoy a nice afternoon in the main square of Puerto Maldonado.
