In December 2025, UNESCO officially inscribed *"Kithul Madeema"* (the traditional technology for tapping Kitul) on the *Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This has sparked significant interest in tours that showcase this ancient craft, particularly in the lush villages surrounding **Kandy*.
*Observation of "Kithul Madeema":* You can watch skilled tappers climb the tall Caryota urens (Kitul) palms using traditional ladders made of wood and vines.
*Honey & Jaggery Production:* See how the collected sap is filtered and boiled down over a wood-fired hearth for hours to create *Kitul Pani* (honey/treacle) and then poured into coconut shells to set as *Kitul Hakuru* (jaggery).
*Raw Material Education:* Discover the various uses of the tree, from the flour (Kitul Pittu) made from the pith of the trunk to the fibers used for traditional ropes.
* *Walpalagolla Village:* A designated "agro-tourism" village near Kandy that offers organized cultural walks.

This village is located 15 kilometers from Kandy city. Transportation facilities will be provided.
Please wait in the hotel lobby ten minutes before the start of the journey.
We arrived at any place within 10 km from Kandy.
