After free hotel pickup around 6:45 PM, you head out to admire the city lights from a scenic night view point before setting off with your guide to search for wild wallabies and other nocturnal animals. The types and numbers of animals you see will vary depending on the night.
Next, your guide, who also works as a professional photographer, leads you to a dark-sky spot to take in the full splendour of the southern night sky with your own eyes. They explain the Milky Way, the Southern Cross, and other constellations in an easy-to-understand way, matched to the season and time of night, and give you a popular lesson on how to photograph the stars with your own smartphone.
Rather than just looking up, learning the stories behind the stars makes the Cairns night sky an even more special memory. You are dropped back at your hotel by around 8:45 PM.
