Depart Alice Springs and travel west into West MacDonnell National Park, where towering red quartzite ranges rise from the desert floor. Known to the Traditional Owners as Tjoritja, this region is rich in Dreamtime stories and remains a place of deep spiritual and cultural importance.
Your first stop is Simpsons Gap (Rungutjirpa), a peaceful gorge with a permanent waterhole that attracts native wildlife. Keep watch for the elusive black-footed rock wallaby, often seen resting among the rocky slopes, along with birdlife and other desert species.
