Set out on a winter snowshoe tour above Hallstatt to the historic Heilbronner Kreuz - a memorial on a dramatic ridge, marking a tragic alpine event. This route combines gentle valleys, rolling hills and exposed karst ridges with panoramic views of the Dachstein massif and the mountains above Hallstatt.
Walking across wide-open alpine terrain with views of the easternmost glacier in the Alps, you’ll experience the raw beauty of Austria’s mountains. On clear winter days, the vast panorama stretches far - perfect for photos or peaceful reflection. The loop is beginner-friendly and does not demand technical snowshoe skills, yet it offers a unique mix of nature, history and alpine thrill.
No need to have snowshoe experience, I will show you how it works before we start. The gear is included. As the trail stays in safe terrain, this tour is ideal for first-timers, couples or families wanting a calm winter escape with unforgettable views.

You'll need a private car (or rental) to reach the starting point of the tour.
A minimum of 2 participants is required for the tour to take place. If you would like to come alone, just book for 2 people.
The tour takes place in almost all weather conditions. (except during snowstorms or heavy rain)
If there has been snowfall beforehand, you may need a snowchain for your car.
This activity requires a good level of fitness and stamina.
You need ankle-high hiking boots or winter shoes with a good grip and winter clothes for this tour.
Please note: there are no opportunities to buy food or drinks during the tour, so make sure to bring everything you need with you. At the end of the tour, you can optionally enjoy a meal or warm drink at a cozy mountain hut.
