Opis

Journey from Sofia to ancient Plovdiv's Roman ruins, then hike lush mountain trails to the stunning Slivodolsko Padalo Waterfall. History & nature in one day!
Step back in time as you explore Plovdiv, continuously inhabited for over 8,000 years and widely celebrated as one of Europe’s oldest living cities. Departing from Sofia at 08:00 will bring you straight into the heart of this cultural capital, where layer upon layer of human history sits right beneath your feet.
You’ll walk along centuries-old cobblestone streets flanked by grand 19th-century Bulgarian houses, adorned with vibrant painted facades and intricate wooden carvings. You will encounter remarkable monuments from the classical world, including the Roman Theatre and the sprawling Roman Stadium. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating stories of the Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans, all of whom left their unmistakable mark on this extraordinary city.

After soaking in the culture, history, and vibrant bohemian atmosphere of Plovdiv’s colorful Kapana arts district, we’ll take a well-deserved pause for lunch. Enjoy a quick and delicious break at a local spot.

After soaking in the culture, history, and vibrant bohemian atmosphere of Plovdiv’s colorful Kapana arts district, we’ll take a well-deserved pause for lunch. Enjoy a quick and delicious break at a local spot, sampling authentic Bulgarian flavors or taking in a coffee while soaking up the city’s uniquely relaxed, slow-paced charm.Segment 2: Hiking the Hidden Trails of the Rhodope MountainsRecharged from lunch, we leave the urban landscape behind for a short 40-minute drive deep into the pristine Rhodope Mountains—the mythical realm of Orpheus. Our destination is the trailhead for Slivodolsko Padalo Waterfall, nestled inside the protected Chervena Stena UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Your nature adventure begins with an immersive 1-hour hike winding through a dense forest canopy. Following the path of the mountain river, the trail offers a feast for the eyes: gentle wooden bridges, moss-covered rock walls, and a series of crystalline mountain streams. The unique mineral-rich bed and shadow-dappled forest give the water an incredible, shimmering turquoise color. The highlight of the trek awaits as you reach Slivodolsko Padalo. Soaring roughly 50 meters high, it stands as the tallest waterfall in the entire Rhodope Mountain range! For guests with good physical agility and sturdy hiking footwear, an extra path leads right down to the base of the gorge. Here, you can stand at the very foot of the roaring cascade, feel the cool mountain mist on your skin, and touch the icy mountain waters. After spending time taking photos and taking in the fresh air, we’ll take an easy one-hour walk back down the trail to our car, concluding an unforgettable day as we drive comfortably back to Sofia.
