Opis

Experience Ryten in winter on a safe, fully guided snowshoe adventure from Reine. We bring all the gear, warm lunch, and local stories — you just show up and enjoy the views.
The winter hike to Ryten is a proper Arctic adventure. We climb more than 500 meters, move through changing terrain, and earn every viewpoint. It’s not an easy stroll, but the reward is unreal. The panorama from the top regularly turns grown adults into soft, emotional creatures. Some blame the beauty, others blame “wind in the eyes.” We let them decide, but we’ll happily take the credit.

While many winter tours in Lofoten are short 2–3 hour walks around a lake or up a small hill, this is a full 5-hour mountain experience. We go slow, steady, and safe — but we still take you high above the fjords to one of the best viewpoints in the islands.

Your guide will also take photos of you along the way and share them afterwards for free.

We pick you up anywhere between Å and Ramberg and drive you to the trailhead. There we prepare the gear: snowshoes, microspikes, hiking poles, and extra layers. Winter conditions change quickly in Lofoten, so we choose the safest and most comfortable option for the day. Never used snowshoes before? Great. You’ll learn something new.

Before we start walking, we show you how to use all the equipment and how to layer your clothes to stay warm without overheating. Then we hike at a relaxed pace with plenty of breaks for photos, hot drinks, and catching your breath.

We keep our groups small (max 8 people) and adjust the pace to the slowest participant. If you like sprinting up mountains, we recommend booking a private tour — and letting us know so your guide can add a few extra cardio sessions beforehand.

Halfway up, we take a longer break and enjoy a warm expedition meal with hot drinks. We provide options for all dietary requirements. Yes, food really does taste better outdoors.

Over the years we’ve gathered gear that makes the experience both safer and far more comfortable: snowshoes, microspikes, poles, gaiters, backpacks, buffs, mittens, fleece layers, ski goggles, thermo cups, lightweight seats with wool liners from Lofoten Wool, a first aid kit, and an emergency shelter. Your guide (a trained nurse or outdoor instructor) also carries extra safety equipment.

Safety always comes first. If weather or avalanche conditions make Ryten unsafe, we choose a beautiful alternative in the same area. You will still get a full winter adventure with stunning views.

This hike isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about enjoying the Arctic winter, learning about Norwegian nature and the philosophy of friluftsliv, taking photos, sharing stories, and sometimes sliding down snowy slopes like kids. We encourage it. It’s fun. It’s Lofoten.

By the time we return to Reine, you’ll be tired in the best possible way — and many guests tell us this was the highlight of their trip to Norway.

We guarantee a safe, memorable, and personal adventure with guides who live here year-round and genuinely love what they do.
