Enjoy a day trip from Djerba to the Dahar region: Tataouine, the Berber village of Chenini and Ksar Hadada, a Star Wars filming location, with a Tunisian lunch and a visit to a local's home.
Your driver-guide will pick you up at your hotel in Djerba around 8:00 AM. In an air-conditioned vehicle, you will cross the island and then head to the mainland towards the Dahar, a region of arid mountains and plateaus in the heart of southern Tunisia.
First stop: Tataouine and its surroundings. Discover this southern town, the gateway to the desert, known for its ksour – fortified granaries built by the Berber people to store their harvests.
Continue to Chenini, a Berber village perched on a rocky ridge. Stroll among the troglodyte dwellings carved into the mountain, admire the white mosque and enjoy the panorama over the valley.
You will then be welcomed into a local home, where you will meet the residents and discover their traditional way of life. Lunch is served: a traditional Tunisian meal prepared with local produce.
In the afternoon, head to Ksar Hadada, a fortified granary with stacked cells. This location was used as a set for the Star Wars movie "The Phantom Menace" and will delight fans of the saga as well as architecture enthusiasts.
You will then head back to Djerba, with a drop-off at your hotel around 4:00 PM. The perfect day trip to discover Berber culture, the landscapes of southern Tunisia and the famous Star Wars film sets.
