LET'S DISCOVER SIENA IN 2 HOURS
Starting from the Basilica of San Domenico, where the relics of Saint Catherine, patron saint of Italy and Europe, are kept, we will immediately be captivated by a breathtaking panorama of the city that will greatly help us understand where and how Siena was built.
From here, we will move towards the city's central street, crossing Via della Sapienza, where the University of Siena was founded in 1240.
We will then reach Via Banchi di Sopra, which corresponds to a stretch of the Via Francigena, a very important European road axis in medieval times that has given so much to this city.
Here we will find the Piazza Salimbeni, which houses the headquarters of the Banca Monte dei Paschi, the oldest bank in the world that still exists, the Piazza Tolomei with the Church of S. Cristoforo and the Palazzo Tolomei.
We will then reach the Croce del Travaglio, the intersection of Siena's three main streets: Via Banchi di Sopra, Via Banchi di Sotto, and Via di Città.
We'll pass through many Contrade until we reach the highest and oldest point of the city, Piazza del Duomo, and then end our tour in the splendid Piazza del Campo, the site of the Palio di Siena horse race.
