Embark on an extraordinary journey to the coldest continent on Earth. Yadegar Asisi’s 32-metre-high panorama "ANTARKTIS reveals the magic and fragility of an outstanding landscape.
With his 360° panorama "ANTARKTIS", Yadegar Asisi invites visitors on a fascinating journey to the coldest region on Earth. The 32-metre-high circular image takes you right to where water and ice meet in the Antarctic coastal landscape: towering icebergs rise above the water‘s surface, while whales, penguins and seals frolic in the ocean below. Changing light, polar lights and themed music convey the feeling of being immersed in this extraordinary landscape. Visitors view the artwork either from ground level or from a 15-metre-high viewing tower, which offers various perspectives on the 360°-panorama.
The panoramic artwork is exhibited at Panometer Leipzig, a converted gasometer near the Monument to the battle of the nations (approx. 3km/1,9mi). Since 2003, the Panometer Leipzig has been hosting a series of changing panoramic exhibitions by the Berlin-based artist Yadegar Asisi – always accompanied by themed background music and a 15-minute light show.
The current ANTARKTIS exhibition will be on display in Leipzig until at least early 2028.
Accompanying the panorama, the Panometer Leipzig is presenting a multimedia exhibition on the geology, climate, wildlife and research history of Antarctica, as well as on Asisi‘s personal artistic approach. Photographs, sketches and paintings provide insight into his expeditions and research, making the creative process behind the work easy to understand. For younger visitors, a children‘s tour offers an easy-to-understand introduction to the Antarctica.
The panoramic experience is rounded off with a final film of approximately 30 minutes.
After your visit, you are welcome to enjoy delicious coffee and cakes in our in-house café.
