Meet your guide at Kossuth Lajos tér Metro Station, directly in front of the Hungarian Parliament Building. Begin your journey with an introduction to Budapest and Hungary, and learn about the history and architecture of the Parliament.
Next, walk through Liberty Square and see the Soviet Memorial and the Ronald Reagan Statue. Stop at the beautiful Musical Fountain (Magical Fountain) when it is operating. Hear stories about the political history and transformation of the area.
Along the route, discover several of Budapest’s famous Mini Statues created by Mihály Kolodko. Look for these hidden artworks while learning about the stories behind them. Then, visit the famous Fat Policeman Statue and hear the local legend about why rubbing its belly is considered good luck.
Visit the exterior of Budapest’s largest church, St. Stephen’s Basilica. Learn about Hungarian history, St. Stephen, and the importance of the basilica. See the surrounding square and get recommendations for local cafés and restaurants.
Walk through the historic city center toward the Chain Bridge. Hear stories about Budapest’s development and architecture along the way. Learn why the Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge connecting Buda and Pest, and hear about its reconstruction and importance to the city. Stop at scenic viewpoints for photographs.
Take a public bus from the Chain Bridge area up to the Castle District. Guests can either purchase their own public transport ticket or choose an option where the ticket is included with the tour.
Once on the Buda side, continue with a detailed exploration of the Castle District. Visit Matthias Church, Fisherman’s Bastion, Holy Trinity Square, Holy Trinity Column, the medieval streets, and panoramic viewpoints. See more hidden Mini Statues found in the Castle District, and hear local legends and interesting historical facts.
Walk through the Castle District while introducing Buda Castle, Lion Courtyard, Hungarian National Gallery (exterior), Budapest History Museum (exterior), National Széchényi Library (exterior), and the Presidential Palace (if appropriate along the route).
