Ohrid is a three hour drive south of Skopje and Kruševo, at over 1300 metres, is the highest town in North Macedonia. This tour covers both cities where the evening on Lake Ohrid is left to you.
Every Ohrid day trip has one problem, and it's not the itinerary. More often than not the problem is the shortage of time one has to view all of the beautiful sights the UNESCO World Heritage Site has to offer. Ohrid sits about three hours from Skopje on the highway, so a normal day trip burns six hours on the road and drops you into town during the exact hours every other tour bus does too. We fixed that by staying the night instead.
Monday we drive south and you're walking the old town by midday with your guide. Past the ancient theatre, through the stone lanes, out along the boardwalk to St John at Kaneo, the little church perched on the cliff above the water. Then the coach groups clear out and the town shifts into something else entirely. Nothing after that is scheduled, and that's the whole point. Watch the sunset over the lake, eat dinner wherever looks good, walk the harbour at night, and sleep in Ohrid instead of on a bus seat heading back to Skopje.
Tuesday morning is for the lake. Then we head up. Kruševo sits above 1300 metres, the highest town in North Macedonia, all steep streets and old wooden houses and history nobody bothered to clean up for tourists. This is where the Ilinden Uprising declared its ten day republic in 1903, and the Makedonium still stands above the town for it, that white spacecraft of a monument finished in 1974. Your guide gives you the real story here, which takes longer than snapping a photo, and then we head back down to Skopje for Tuesday evening.
One night in Ohrid is included, plus transport and a local guide for both days. Meals, drinks and entry tickets are on you. That's deliberate. It keeps the base price honest and leaves your evening actually yours to spend how you want.
Two things you can add on top. A boat trip under the Kaneo cliffs with a swim stop, weather and season depending. Or a tandem paragliding flight over the highlands, when the season allows it. Both are extras, neither takes anything away from the base tour, and if you skip them you pay nothing beyond the standard price.

The tour runs two days and one night. Departure is Monday at 09:00 and the return to Skopje is on Tuesday evening. Ohrid is about three hours south of Skopje on the highway. Day two adds the mountain road up to Kruševo.
One night of accommodation in Ohrid is included, twin or double according to the booking, and the property is confirmed on your voucher. The evening in Ohrid is free and it stays free whether or not you add anything to your booking. Kruševo sits above 1300 metres and the highest town in the country is colder than the lake. Bring a layer even in summer.
If you want to make the most of the free time in Ohrid, a few extras are worth knowing about. A paragliding flight over Ohrid or Krushevo runs 125 euros per person, weather and season permitting. The Kaneo boat tour, with a chance to swim right off the boat, is 42 euros. There's also a lakefront brunch for 48 euros, and Ohrid's old town is a good spot to browse locally made pearls if you want to bring something home.
