The Kamenjane waterfall hike runs from Skopje and covers 7 km with 430 m of height difference past 8 waterfalls in the Šar Mountains. It runs every Sunday, takes 7 hours door to door. No entry fee.
The hike above Kamenjane covers 7 km with 430 m of height difference and passes 8 waterfalls. It sits in the Šar Mountains on the western side of the Polog valley, close to Tetovo, and the whole day runs 6 to 7 hours from the moment you leave Skopje to the moment you are back in it. There is no entry fee anywhere on the route, because there is nothing to buy a ticket for. The falls are open nature.
Everyone asks about Matka. Almost nobody asks about Kamenjane, and that is the entire reason this Sunday works. From the village the path climbs into forest and the water starts early. One waterfall, then another, cold and loud and completely free of tour buses.
The ground is natural mountain terrain, uneven in places, with some climbing. Your guide sets a pace the whole group can hold and stops as often as the group wants, which on a hot day is often. You will put your hands in the coldest water you touch all year and you will hear the next fall before you see it.
Lunch is not included. Bring a picnic and eat on the rocks with the waterfall spray reaching you during the hike, or add the lunch stop for 39 euros and eat a proper meal after the hike instead, with nothing to carry along the way.
By evening you are back at the flower market on Street Naroden Front with legs that earned their rest. Group size begins at 2 people.
