Opis

Climb Volcan Baru, Panama's highest mountain. Hike at night to reach the summit at dawn. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea!
You can hike Volcan Baru, Panama's highest mountain, at 3,475 meters (11,401 feet). It's part of a national park covering 14,325 hectares (35,400 acres). As part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, this area is an important refuge for many species, including felines like the jaguar and the ocelot, both of which are difficult to spot. Other species that inhabit the park include the coati, the collared peccary, the armadillo, and more. Volcan Baru is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 335 species sighted, including the resplendent quetzal.

The hike to Volcan Baru is a challenging excursion with an incredible reward. You'll be picked up from your hotel around 11 p.m. for a hike in the dark to the summit. Be sure to gaze at the sky, as it's not often you're in a place with so many stars. Along some sections of the hike, you'll be able to see the lights of the cities of David, Boquete, or Volcan in the distance. Your headlamp will illuminate your path through the terrain, which changes with altitude. Volcan Baru National Park features tropical rainforests, cloud forests, natural savannas, grasslands, and volcanic terrain.

You'll reach the summit of Volcan Baru between 4:30 and 6:00 a.m., depending on your group's pace. It's cold up there, so be sure to dress warmly. You'll likely need shelter until the highlight of the tour: the sunrise! The sun's rays will begin to paint the sky as you remember why you made the hike. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea from the same spot, as well as the volcano's shadow. Climb a little higher to reach the famous antennas that appear in most photos.

The descent from Volcan Baru takes place in broad daylight, allowing you to fully appreciate the natural beauty of this national park. Your driver will then take you back to your hotel, where you'll likely sleep for hours!
