Predating the Himalayas by roughly two billion years, this quartzite ridge system forms part of one of the oldest exposed mountain ranges on the planet. The Ysterhout Gorge, carved into its southern face, is where this tour takes place, and crossing it by zipline gives you a perspective that no hiking trail or viewpoint can replicate.

Your booking includes a private hotel pickup from Johannesburg or Pretoria. A dedicated driver-guide collects you at your accommodation and covers the approximately 90-minute transfer through the open Highveld, using the journey to brief you on what the gorge crossing involves and what to look for once you arrive. No preparation is required on your part beforehand.
At the canopy centre, you are fitted with a full harness, helmet, and protective gloves. A certified guide then walks your group through a structured safety briefing before the activity begins. The crossing itself follows a crisscross pattern across the gorge, with 11 lines ranging up to 140 metres in length. Each platform offers a distinct angle on the ravine below and the ridge above. Between runs, your guide points out features specific to this biosphere: the quartzite cliff formations, the raptors that nest in the gorge walls, and the hardy fynbos-adjacent scrub that clings to the rock faces at this altitude.
