From Tashkent: Amirsoy, Chimgan & Charvak Mountain Day Trip For Local Visitors

Just 90 minutes from the city, Uzbekistan's Western Tian Shan mountains feel like another world. This full-day tour takes you to three of the region's best-loved spots near the Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan borders: Amirsoy Mountain Resort, the historic Chimgan area, and Charvak Water Reservoir.
Your English-speaking driver-guide picks you up from your Tashkent hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Settle in as the city gives way to open plains, then rolling foothills, then real mountains. In winter and spring, we pause for warm Green Somsa and herbal mountain tea; in summer, it's ice cream and cold drinks instead — a small taste of local hospitality before the adventure begins.
Amirsoy Mountain Resort is your first stop — one of Central Asia's newest mountain destinations. A modern cable car carries you through three stations up to the summit at 2,099m, with the second station offering restaurants, washrooms, and a prayer room along the way. From there, a second cable car climbs to the top for 30–40 minutes of open panoramic views, and hikers can push further along the trails beyond the summit. In winter, Amirsoy switches into full ski-resort mode with snow activities. (Lunch is available at the base station restaurant, at your own expense.)
Next comes the Great Chimgan area — home to one of the region's tallest peaks and a favorite mountain getaway since Soviet times, prized for its cool climate and sweeping scenery. Local vendors here offer optional extras like short horse rides and picnic spots (these are run independently and may not include safety equipment, so join in at your own discretion). Plan on about an hour here to explore.
A scenic 20–30 minute drive through Chimgan village brings you to a viewpoint over Charvak Water Reservoir — one of the best photo stops of the day. If you'd like to get down to the waterfront itself, there's a small entrance fee (about 30,000 UZS per person, not included), and water activities like speed boats and jet skiing are available at your own expense too. You'll have 1–1.5 hours to relax lakeside before the 90-minute drive back to Tashkent.
This is Uzbekistan beyond the Silk Road cities: cable cars above the clouds, crisp mountain air, and turquoise water stretching out below you.
