Begin your experience with pickup from your accommodation in Yala. Meet your local host and travel toward Yala National Park in a private safari vehicle.

Once inside the park, begin your wildlife safari through Yala’s dry forests, open grasslands, wetlands, rocky areas, and waterholes. Your local safari driver uses knowledge of the park, animal movements, and recent wildlife activity to search for animals while allowing time for observation and photography.

Yala is famous for the Sri Lankan leopard, and searching for signs of leopard activity is an exciting part of the safari. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but every journey provides a different opportunity to experience the park’s natural environment.

Look out for Asian elephants, spotted deer, water buffalo, crocodiles, wild boar, monkeys, mongooses, peacocks, eagles, and many other native and migratory birds.

Photography is an important part of this experience. Instead of rushing between sightings, your driver can allow additional observation time when conditions and park regulations permit. This gives you more opportunities to photograph wildlife behavior, landscapes, and natural moments.

Guests using DSLR, mirrorless, compact cameras, or smartphones are welcome. If camera equipment is included in your selected package, your host will explain the basic setup before the photography portion begins.

After the safari, continue the experience with a guided nature-focused walk in an appropriate area outside the restricted wildlife-drive zones. Explore the local environment at a slower pace and learn about plants, birds, insects, animal signs, and smaller wildlife that can easily be missed from a safari jeep.

This combination creates two different perspectives of the Yala region: searching for larger wildlife from a 4WD safari vehicle and discovering smaller details of the natural environment on foot.

Your local host will share knowledge about the wildlife, habitats, and natural environment throughout the journey while helping you explore responsibly. At the end of the experience, return to your original pickup location.
