[Practical Information, Location, and Admission]
Welcome to Jingshan Park, an imposing imperial artificial mountain built during the Yuan and Ming dynasties, located right in front of the Gate of Divine Fecundity (Shenwumen) of the Forbidden City.
Perfect Connection: It's the ideal place to continue after your visit to the Forbidden City (you just have to cross the street from the north exit).
By Metro: Take Line 8 to Nanluoguxiang Station (15-minute walk) or use bus connections (Lines 101, 103, or 109 to the Imperial Palace - Shenwumen Gate stop).
[The Heart of the Central Axis: Wanchun Tower and 360-Degree Views]
The man-made Jingshan Hill crowns the traditional geometric center of Beijing (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Wanchun Tower (Pavilion of Eternal Spring): Located at the summit (reached via a very gentle 10- to 15-minute path), it hosts the city's central geodetic point. From here, you'll enjoy the best photographic perspective of all of Beijing:
To the South: A breathtaking and uninterrupted view of the golden roofs and red walls of the Forbidden City.
To the East: The perfect visual contrast between traditional imperial architecture and the modern skyscrapers of the Central Business District (CBD).
Other peaks in the park: A total of five consecutive imperial pavilions (Zhouchan, Guanmiao, Wanchun, Jifang, and Fulan) built to host Buddhist deities.
[History and Imperial Sites of the Park]
The Site of the Chongzhen Tragedy: Located on the eastern slope, a memorial site marks the place where the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty took his own life in 1644, a crucial milestone in the dynastic transition to the Qing.
The Shuhuangdian Ancestral Temple Complex: Located north of the axis, the complex of red buildings with double-eave roofs where the Qing royal family performed ceremonies to worship imperial ancestors.
The Local Wellness Tradition: Jingshan is not just history; it is the quintessential meeting place for locals, who come every day to practice traditional body arts, singing, and outdoor relaxation.
