Begin your experience with a pickup from your hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Drive for approximately 1 hour to the Changunarayan Hilltop, where your adventure begins.
Start with a 1.5-hour hands-on wood carving workshop in the Changunarayan area. Under the guidance of local artisans, learn traditional Newari woodcarving techniques, including using chisels to create intricate designs. Create and take home your own small wooden piece, such as a carved infinity knot.
After your workshop, enjoy a traditional Newari meal. Then, head to the Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site considered the oldest temple in Nepal, dating back to the 4th–5th century.
Admire the temple's detailed woodcarvings, stone sculptures, and Lichhavi-era inscriptions. Take a guided walk around the temple complex, learning about its history, the "Garuda" statue, and the surrounding pine forest.
