Huaraz: Rocotuyoc Lagoon & Frozen Lagoon Full-Day Tour

Discover Rocotuyoc Lagoon, Paccharuri Waterfall, ancient rock paintings, and a frozen lagoon surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers.
Explore the northern part of the Callejón de Huaylas on a full-day trip to Rocotuyoc Lagoon and a nearby frozen lagoon. Enjoy high-Andean landscapes, waterfalls, rock paintings, snow-capped mountains, and glaciers.

The tour begins at 9:00 AM from Huaraz, traveling toward the Vicos Community. Your first stop is Paccharuri Waterfall, a cascade more than 30 meters high, surrounded by natural mountain scenery.

Continue to the rock paintings and take a walk of approximately 20 minutes to reach the site. Here, you can see large pastoral rock paintings and learn about part of the area's cultural heritage.

Next, visit Rocotuyoc Lagoon, surrounded by high-Andean flora and fauna, with views of the impressive Paccharaju and Bayoraju snow-capped mountains. Take time to explore the surroundings and enjoy the scenery.

From Rocotuyoc Lagoon, begin an approximately 40-minute hike toward the frozen lagoon. The trail crosses a high-mountain environment where you can observe abundant ice and formations associated with nearby glaciers. This hike requires a basic level of physical fitness due to the altitude and terrain.

After the hike, you will have time to enjoy regional dishes. Lunch is not included and costs from approximately S/ 25, depending on the dish selected. After lunch, begin the return journey to Huaraz, arriving at approximately 5:30 PM.

The tour reaches a maximum altitude of approximately 4,550 meters above sea level. Weather and trail conditions may change during the day.

Entrance to the Vicos Community costs S/ 10 for adults and S/ 5 for children. A boat ride costs approximately S/ 10, if used.

Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat or cap, comfortable footwear, preferably trekking shoes, light clothing, and a warm layer. Bring approximately 1.5 liters of water per person and snacks such as chocolate or cereal bars.

Bring cash in Peruvian soles, as Yape, Plin, cards, and other digital payment methods may not be available along the route.

Due to the high altitude of the tour, inform the operator in advance about any dietary restrictions, relevant medical conditions, or specific requirements.
