A tour very close to the city, where you can appreciate the Sillar quarries as well as the carvings in this same material.
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Arequipa at approximately 8:50 am and we will head towards the Ruta del Sillar, one of the most historic roads in Peru. We will reach a viewpoint to appreciate a beautiful view of the volcanoes that surround Arequipa, and then we will continue the journey.
Do you want to discover the origins of ashlar stone? The first place we will stop will be the Añashuayco Quarry, where we can see how local masons work the stone and learn the carving process. Furthermore, at this point we will admire the immense canyon of cliffs, the result of the extraction of the material for the formation of the ashlar.
We will leave the Añashuayco Quarry, and about 30 minutes away we will find the Quebrada de Culebrillas. The water canyon will invite us to admire its walls up to 20 meters high, and we will enter it for a walk of about 20 minutes. Let's explore!
Our last stop on the Sillar Route will be to discover the petroglyphs of the canyon, figures carved in stone whose meaning is unknown.
Finally, we will return to Arequipa at 1:00 p.m., where we will end the excursion.
