Explore the Amazon for 5 days with wildlife encounters, Lake Sandoval, Monkey Island, canopy adventures, kayaking, fishing, a parrot clay lick, and a visit to a local Indigenous family.
Day 1 – Arrival, Monkey Island & Caiman Search
Your Amazon adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado with pickup at the airport or bus station. After registration at the Monte Amazónico office, travel to the port and take a boat for approximately 1 hour along the Madre de Dios River to the jungle lodge. After check-in and lunch, visit Monkey Island to observe capuchin, howler, and squirrel monkeys. At night, take a boat excursion to look for caimans and, with luck, capybaras and other nocturnal wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 – Lake Sandoval & Night Walk
After breakfast, walk approximately 3 km through the rainforest to Lake Sandoval in Tambopata National Reserve. Explore the lake by rowing boat and look for birds, monkeys, sloths, caimans, and possibly giant river otters. Return to the lodge for lunch and a break. At night, take a guided walk through the rainforest to discover insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal species. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3 – Canopy, Zip-Line, Kayaking & Fishing
Start early with a walk along the Canopy Walkway, with platforms around 30 meters above the ground and panoramic views of the Madre de Dios River. After breakfast, enjoy a Zip-Line adventure following a safety briefing from your instructor. After lunch and a break, paddle by kayak along the Madre de Dios River and enjoy the rainforest scenery. Later, try traditional fishing and look for species such as catfish and palometa. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Parrot Clay Lick & Indigenous Family Visit
Early in the morning, take a boat to a parrot clay lick on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Watch different species of parrots gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay. Return to the lodge for breakfast. After lunch, visit a local Indigenous family and learn about their daily activities, traditions, and way of life. Return to the lodge for dinner and your final overnight stay.
Day 5 – Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport or bus station according to your departure arrangements, where your Amazon adventure ends.
