Descrição
Discover the diverse beauty of Portugal’s coast on a day trip from Lisbon. Visit the beaches of Alentejo and the Algarve, explore Silves Castle, and see the dramatic cliffs of Cabo de São Vicente.
Leave Lisbon early, as the morning light softens the terracotta rooftops and the Tagus River glows behind you. Cross the 25 de Abril Bridge, and watch as the city slowly gives way to open plains, cork trees, and the quiet rhythm of the Alentejo countryside.
Your first stop is Carvalhal Beach, near the serene Comporta region. Here, the Atlantic opens wide and endless. Golden sand rolls into dunes covered in wild grasses, and the air carries a clean, salty freshness. The beach feels spacious and uncrowded, even in warmer months. Wooden walkways lead gently across the dunes, preserving the natural landscape.
Next, head to Praia de Melides. This beach feels even more remote. Pine forests line the horizon, and the dunes seem to stretch forever. There’s a wildness here — fewer footprints, fewer buildings, just ocean, sky, and wind. It’s a place to breathe deeply and appreciate the simple power of nature.
Continuing along the Alentejo coast, reach Praia Vasco da Gama, near the historic town of Sines. The beach sits beside a working harbor, blending maritime life with relaxed seaside charm. Fishing boats, sea breeze, and distant cliffs create a distinctly Portuguese coastal scene. A brief pause here offers a glimpse into the country’s long relationship with the ocean.
Further south, the landscape grows more dramatic as you approach Praia de Odeceixe Mar. This is one of Portugal’s most unique beaches. On one side, the Atlantic waves crash energetically against the shore. On the other, a calm river lagoon curves gently inland, creating a natural swimming area framed by green hills. Standing on the cliff above, you can see both waters at once — a rare and beautiful contrast. It’s an ideal midday stop, perhaps for lunch overlooking the sea.
As you enter the western Algarve, the scenery becomes rugged and cinematic. At Cabo de São Vicente, towering cliffs drop sharply into the Atlantic below. This windswept headland is often called the “End of the World.” The lighthouse stands strong against the powerful ocean winds, and the horizon feels infinite. Waves crash violently against dark rocks far beneath you. It’s dramatic, raw, and unforgettable.
Leaving the coast briefly, drive inland to Silves Castle. Rising above the town of Silves, the red sandstone fortress recalls a time when the Algarve was under Moorish rule. Walking along its ancient walls, imagine medieval life unfolding centuries ago — traders, scholars, and soldiers beneath the same sun. From the ramparts, the countryside stretches in every direction, dotted with orange groves and rolling hills.
Your final coastal stop brings you to Albufeira and the stunning Praia Maria Luísa. Here, the Algarve reveals its iconic beauty: honey-colored limestone cliffs sculpted by wind and sea, turquoise waters glistening in the late afternoon sun, and hidden rock formations creating natural alcoves along the beach.
