Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of Cáceres and its old town, one of the best preserved in Europe, with an expert local guide who loves her city.
Our sightseeing tour of Cáceres begins in Plaza de San Juan. From there, we'll visit less-traveled areas such as Plaza de las Piñuelas and the Adarve de Santa Ana, where we'll begin to understand the defensive importance of the ancient town.
We continue to the imposing Golfines de Arriba Palace. This palace is one of the great symbols of aristocratic power, along with the nearby Convento de las Jerónimas, which is linked to the religious history of Cáceres. Through the Puerta de Mérida, we'll enter the upper part of the city, touring the picturesque Barrio de San Antonio, one of the most authentic neighborhoods with the best views.
The tour continues through Plaza de las Veletas. There are vestiges of different cultures there, and the Plaza de San Mateo, a key setting in medieval Cáceres. We then arrive at the monumental Plaza de San Jorge, where the famous entrance staircase to the Church of San Francisco Javier is one of the great postcard images of Cáceres. Before entering the iconic Plaza de Santa María, the heart of the historic complex, and marveling at the Co-Cathedral of Santa María, we'll also pass by the Palacio de los Golfines de Abajo.
On the final stretch of the sightseeing tour, we'll come to the Palacio de Carvajal, now the province's visitor center, and the curious circular tower of the same name. Finally, we'll end our visit next to the iconic Arco de la Estrella, the most iconic entrance to the Monumental City and the perfect way to discover why Cáceres has been a World Heritage Site since 1986.
