Begin your day with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Moshi. Travel with a professional guide to Materuni Village, located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, meet your local village guide and receive a short briefing about the area, the Chagga community, and the walking route to the waterfall.

Begin a guided walk through fertile farmland, banana plantations, and green village landscapes. Along the way, your guide will explain local plants, traditional farming practices, and daily life in the community. The trail may be uneven, muddy, or slippery after rainfall, so comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended. The walk normally takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes each way, depending on the pace of the group and trail conditions.

Arrive at the impressive Materuni Waterfalls and enjoy time to admire the scenery, take photographs, and relax beside the natural pool. The waterfall is surrounded by steep cliffs and lush vegetation, making it one of the most beautiful natural attractions near Moshi. Swim when water and weather conditions are considered safe. Swimming is optional, and visitors should follow the guide’s safety instructions at all times.

After enjoying the waterfall, walk back through the countryside to the village. Take in the peaceful atmosphere and enjoy further opportunities to learn about local agriculture and community life. Join local coffee farmers for an interactive demonstration of the traditional coffee-making process. Learn how coffee beans are harvested, separated, dried, roasted, ground, and brewed.

Participate in grinding and preparing the coffee while enjoying traditional songs and storytelling. At the end of the demonstration, taste a fresh cup of locally produced Arabica coffee. Enjoy a freshly prepared traditional lunch made with local ingredients. The meal may include regional dishes such as rice, beans, vegetables, plantains, meat, or other seasonal foods.

Spend additional time with your hosts, ask questions, and learn more about Chagga traditions, farming practices, and family life. Locally made coffee and handmade products may be available for purchase directly from community members. After completing the waterfall, coffee, and lunch experiences, meet your driver and begin the journey back to Moshi.
