Boston is the cradle of American liberty. You'll learn about Boston's humble beginnings in the late 1620s, its unique history and how it got its name plus its role in the American Revolution
Step back in time to where America began and let our local teachers and historians regale you with Boston's vibrant history. Through a series of pictures, paintings, maps and storytelling, we will bring the past alive.
You'll start on America's first public park - Boston Common - and learn the distinctive ways how Beacon Hill, the Frog Pond and Tremont street got its name.
We'll tell you about how William Blackstone settled on the Shawmut Peninsula which was much smaller than the present-day city. We will show you maps of original Boston compared to the hustling, bustling city it is today. And you'll hear the true story of how Boston got named.
You'll see Park Street Church and learn about its history from its start in the early 1800s. The Granary Burying Grounds are right around the corner where 5,000 people are buried, including three signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Boston Massacre victims and other notable internments.
King's Chapel (the first Anglican church in Boston) is down the street and buried in its cemetery are governors, reverends and William Dawes, who rode with Paul Revere.
You'll hear about the Battle of Bunker Hill across the water in Charlestown, how Henry Knox ended the 11-month siege of Boston and see Faneuil Hall where the famous phrase "No taxation without representation" was first uttered.
And we'll show you where Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
The Boston Massacre site is steps away from Faneuil Hall where five colonists died in a riot with British soldiers.
The old jail location is nearby where accused witches, pirates and other criminals were held in 1692.
You'll follow us to the South Meeting House and learn about the meeting that preceded the Boston Tea Party as well as the rebellious event that brought us closer to war with Britain.
We'll end at the original site of the Boston Latin School that was the first school in the country and explain the importance of the school to the American Revolution.
