Beskrivning
Walk the Moreton Bay mudflats at low tide to a working oyster farm on Minjerribah with your Quandamooka guide. Learn to shuck, then taste 18 native rock oysters per person.
Walk out to a working oyster farm on foot, on Quandamooka Country, with the family who farm it.
Meet your Quandamooka guide at the Otter Street, Adams Beach access in Goompi (Dunwich), a 5 to 10 minute walk from the SeaLink ferry. As the tide drops, head out across the exposed mudflats and through shallow tidal water towards Deanbilla Bay. The walk takes around 20 minutes each way. Expect wet, muddy feet, and keep your eyes open. Mud crabs, turtles and dolphins all live in this part of the bay, and no two walks turn up the same thing.
On the way, your guide shares knowledge of Country, and the story of the bay itself: how plentiful it has always been, and how over-extraction and the lime taken from it to build the region's cities changed it.
At the farm, get hands-on with every stage of growing a native Quandamooka rock oyster, from tiny spat through to harvest, a process that runs over three years. See traditional tripod growing methods alongside the modern systems used on the farm today. Learn how oysters are graded and handled, and how the tides shape the way the farm works. Nothing is scripted and you are welcome to ask anything, you’ll leave feeling like you are a friend of the family rather than a person in a tour group.
Then learn to shuck your own oyster and enjoy 18 fresh Quandamooka rock oysters per person, with vinaigrette, lemon and Tabasco and cold refreshments, beside the water they were grown in. From there, you walk back across the mudflats to Adams Beach.
Quandamooka Oyster Farm Tours is family owned and First Nations-led, and one of the only First Nations-led oyster farm tours in Australia. Your booking helps build skills and pathways for young people in the community, from oyster farming to tourism.
