Beskrivning

Feast through São Paulo's República and Santa Cecília neighbourhoods with 12+ tastings at local bars, eateries, and food institutions. Join our small group tour limited to just 8 guests.
São Paulo is a city that treats food less like a necessity and more like a competitive sport. Home to over twenty million people and countless immigrant communities that have shaped the city's food scene, where architects dream in concrete, and where some of the country's best meals are hidden behind unassuming doors. But while everyone in São Paulo has a recommendation for where to eat, it pays to know the culinary ropes.

Our evening food tour of 12+ tastings explores the neighbourhoods of República and Santa Cecília, uncovering the bars, bakeries, street vendors, and local institutions that visited less by foreigners, and more by locals in the know.

We begin with a Brazilian classic. Brigadeiros paired with cinnamon-spiced coffee provide a sweet introduction to a city powered by caffeine. As we wander through República, we'll pause beneath Oscar Niemeyer's iconic Copan Building, a giant concrete wave that has become one of São Paulo's defining landmarks. Nearby, we'll explore another national treasure: cachaça. Distilled from sugarcane since colonial times, we'll sample a flight of three styles ranging from classic unaged expressions to varieties matured in native Brazilian woods.

At a neighbourhood institution that has been feeding locals since the 1960s, we'll sink our teeth into one of the city's most celebrated pork sandwiches alongside golden chicken croquettes. Nearby, fresh batches of pão de queijo emerge from bakery ovens, their crisp shells giving way to warm, stretchy centres that explain why Brazilians are hopelessly addicted to them.

We'll stop for charcoal-grilled beef skewers coated in toasted cassava flour before tackling another national obsession: the pastel. These blistered pastries arrive filled with seasoned beef and creamy heart of palm, served with a fiery homemade chilli sauce that rewards bravery.

A short Metro ride brings us into Santa Cecília, a neighbourhood where artists, musicians, students, and long-time residents share the same streets. Here we'll explore flavours from Brazil's Northeast through hearty baião de dois, rich bean stew, and crackling pork that shatters satisfyingly with every bite.

We finish at a lively botequim, where cold chopp beer accompanies modern Brazilian dishes including beef rib croquettes and chicken gizzards dressed in salsa verde. There's more to this São Paulo food tour than the food itself. It's a discovery and understanding of a city built by generations of migrants, dreamers, and entrepreneurs. Whilst it's possible to eat well in São Paulo alone, you'd be hard-pushed to find these stories, flavours, and local favourites without our tastemaker guides.
