Quilotoa tour, Scenic Volcano Drive, Local Experience & Hike

Discover Quilotoa Lagoon and its stunning emerald crater. Meet a local family, enjoy breathtaking volcano views, and choose between a scenic rim walk or a short hike for an unforgettable day.
We will depart from Quito, heading into the Andes while enjoying spectacular views along the way. As you travel, you’ll observe several volcanoes rising on the horizon, including the iconic Cotopaxi, as well as Pasochoa and Rumiñahui, each adding to the dramatic scenery.

Near the Quilotoa Volcano, we’ll visit Don Julián’s home, where you’ll experience traditional Andean life at over 3,500 meters above sea level. You’ll notice the presence of guinea pigs, believed to protect against negative energies, and see small plantations of potatoes and other local crops.

We’ll then explore the Los Ilinizas Ecological Reserve, known for its biodiversity and stunning landscapes. If time allows, you may take a short hike toward the crater lagoon or walk along the rim of the Quilotoa crater, enjoying the surrounding flora and fauna.

At Quilotoa Lake, we’ll take in the emerald-green waters within the volcanic crater. You can hike down toward the lagoon and back up, or choose optional activities such as kayaking or a short boat ride.

We’ll continue to the impressive Toachi Canyon, a natural formation shaped over thousands of years, ideal for photography and appreciating the landscape.

In Tigua, you’ll visit the gallery of Julio Toaquiza Tigasi, where traditional sheepskin paintings reflect daily life and local customs, along with wooden masks representing regional dancers.

After a full day of exploration, we will return to Quito, completing the experience.
