Beskrivning

Walk with me through real Rwanda. Start at Musanze Agri Market, visit village homes, and walk the Mpenge Trail to Isaac Waterfall. Meet locals and see life beyond the gorillas.
Meet your guide, Joshua, at the main entrance of Musanze Agri Market in the town center. We start right away because this market is the heart of Musanze.

Step inside Musanze Central Market with me. This is where farmers come down from all the villages around the volcanoes to sell potatoes, beans, bananas, avocado, passion fruit, and spices. The market is loud, colorful, and smells amazing.

Meet some of the sellers. You can taste fresh fruit, ask about prices, and learn what Rwandans actually buy and cook at home. This is not a tourist market. This is where my mom shops too. You’ll see how people bargain, how food is weighed in cups, and what a typical Rwandan meal is made of.

From the market, we walk out of town. In about 15 minutes, the noise fades and you find yourself in the villages. The air changes. You hear chickens, kids playing football with a plastic ball, and people working in the fields.

Now we visit homes and see real village life. You might see someone cooking beans on a fire outside, women weaving baskets from banana leaves, or men digging in the fields with hoes. Don’t worry about language. I will translate so you can talk to them directly. Ask about school, family, farming, weddings, or anything you are curious about. If they say yes, you can take photos.

This is not a show. This is daily life. If you want, you can try things yourself. Try grinding maize with a stone, carrying a bucket of water on your head like the women do, or pounding beans. People will laugh with you and teach you. You’ll leave with mud on your shoes and a real story to tell.

Next, we walk part of the famous Mpenge Community Trail. This is the local trail that connects villages, farms, and banana plantations in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. The views are insane. Green hills everywhere, and on a clear day you can see 3 of the volcanoes in the distance.

On the trail we stop at real spots. Maybe a local bar for a cold Fanta or Primus, maybe a small shop selling soap and sugar, or maybe we just sit and talk with elders under a big tree. The trail is how people here walk every day to visit neighbors or go to the market. You’ll walk the same paths they do.

Halfway through, we head to Isaac Waterfalls. It’s a 20-minute walk down through banana plantations to get there. It’s quiet. Only the sound of water hitting rocks. I’ll tell you the local story about Isaac Waterfall and why people in the village come here. Rest for a bit, drink water, and take photos.

After the falls, we walk back through more villages on the Mpenge Trail. You’ll see more homes, more farms, more kids waving and shouting "Muzungu!" Finish our walk back at Musanze Agri Market where we started.

This 4-hour tour is perfect if you want to see Rwanda beyond the gorillas. You’ll meet people, learn how we live, walk beautiful trails, and see a waterfall. Come with an open mind and good walking shoes.

VIKTIG INFORMATION
This is a 5-6 km walk and we take about 4 hours. No rush.
We walk slowly. We stop a lot - for photos, for questions, to say hello to people, to just look around. The path is not flat, there are some hills, dirt roads and a few stairs.
So please wear good shoes you can walk in.
I keep the group small, max 8 people. It is more respectful like that when we go into the villages and visit families.
Musanze weather changes fast. It can be sunny and then 10 minutes later it rains. Bring a small rain jacket just in case, and a bottle for water. Don't worry, you can buy water on the way if you need it.
This tour is for people who want to see the real life here, not just a show. You will enter real homes, so please wear something that covers your shoulders and knees. It shows respect.
You don't need to be an athlete. If you can walk for 4 hours with breaks, you will be fine.
Tipping is not a must, but if you liked the tour, the guides really appreciate it.
