Mt. Elgon National Park: 3-Day Camping Tour

Explore Mt. Elgon National Park on a 3-day camping tour. Hike to Endebess Bluff, visit Elephant Caves, and camp under the stars. Meals, camping gear, and a guide are included.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploration of Kapkuro Nature Trails

Arrive early at Mt. Elgon National Park main gate (Kapkuro or Chorlim Gate). Register and meet your guide and ranger. Receive a short briefing on park rules and safety.

Begin a guided nature walk through Kapkuro Nature Trails. Spot monkeys, bushbucks, and numerous bird species. Visit Elephant Caves (Kitum Cave or Makingeny Cave), famous for salt-licking elephants. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the caves.

Set up camp at Kapkuro Public Campsite (or inside the park near the gate). Relax in the evening and have dinner by the campfire under the stars.

Day 2: Hike to Endebess Bluff and Scenic Viewing

Have an early breakfast at the campsite. Start the day’s hike to Endebess Bluff (2,563m) for panoramic views of the park, Trans Nzoia plains, and even Lake Turkana on clear days. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the trail.

Descend and drive or walk to Kitum Cave (if not visited on Day 1). Return to the campsite for rest. Opt for an evening bird walk or photography session. End the day with dinner and storytelling around the campfire.

Day 3: Forest Walk and Departure

Have breakfast at camp. Opt for a forest walk or visit the Chepkitale community area to learn about local culture and conservation. Break camp and pack up. Exit through Chorlim Gate with an optional stop at Mt. Elgon Lodge for refreshments. Depart for your next destination (Kitale, Eldoret, or Nairobi).
