The Paper Bead Cooperative

One of the most memorable stops on the tour is a visit to a women's cooperative where jewelry is made entirely from recycled paper. Old magazines, packaging scraps, and calendar pages are cut into strips, rolled by hand, sealed, and strung into bracelets and necklaces of real colour and craft.

The cooperative solves two problems at once, reducing paper waste and generating reliable income for member households. Furthermore, the finished pieces are sold to buyers across Uganda and internationally, connecting Kisenyi directly to a global market. You can watch the process from raw material to finished product. You can also buy directly from the makers, with full transparency about where the money goes.
