Discover Plovdiv on a guided day trip from Sofia. Visit the Bishop’s Basilica, explore the Old Town, and enjoy a delicious lunch in the artistic Kapana district.
Start your day with a scenic train ride from Sofia to Plovdiv. Upon arrival, together with our guide head toward Tsar Boris III Boulevard and walk to the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis, one of Bulgaria’s newest and most impressive museums. Admire its stunning mosaics and modern multimedia installations.
Next, stroll along the Main Pedestrian Street, passing by the Roman Stadium and Dzhumaya Mosque. Pause for photos and soak in the vibrant city life.
Then we head to the artistic Kapana quarter for lunch at a traditional Restaurant, popular among tourists and locals. Alternatively we can enjoy a meal at “Rahat Tepe” in the Old Town, offering a scenic view.
After lunch, we will explore the cobblestone streets of Old Plovdiv. We will visit the Hindliyan House-Museum, one of the most beautiful 19th-century Revival-style houses, richly decorated inside.
We will then continue to the Roman Theatre, which can be seen from the outside or entered with a ticket (optional). Then we will take a short break in the shade, on benches or at a nearby café.
Then we climb to Nebet Tepe for a panoramic view over Plovdiv, with a photo break and free time to relax. We will walk back down through the Old Town or Kapana for an afternoon pause with coffee and dessert at the Turkish sweet house or a different one.
Finally, we will enjoy an easy walk back along the Main Street to the railway station, with a quick stop for souvenirs if time allows.

The itinerary is fully walkable, no transport needed within Plovdiv.
The group gathers at Sofia Central station. The guide will be waiting on Ground 0, outside near the answer under the big clock. The guide will be holding a sign (Plovdiv) and will be waiting for the group from 07:30 to 08:00. Afterwards the group moves to the train departure platform and boards the train leaving at 8:22.
