Discover the ancient history of Ethiopia on a day trip from Addis Ababa. Visit the Melka Kunture archaeological site, the Adadi Mariam Church, and the Tiya stelae field. Enjoy a picnic lunch and visit a traditional Oromo village.
Start your day with pickup from your hotel in Addis Ababa and head south through the fertile rolling hills. After about an hour, arrive at the prehistoric site of Melka Kunture. See Stone Age tools dating back 1.7 million years and the remains of Homo Erectus, which are 600,000 years old.
Continue to the rock-hewn church of Adadi Mariam, built in the same style as the famous contemporaries in Lalibela. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the area before driving to Tiya, where mysterious stelae are found, most probably grave markers.
Afterward, drive back to Addis Ababa, stopping at a traditional Oromo village along the way. Drop-off at your hotel in the late afternoon.
